Schedule 40 Pipe NippleThe most used pipe schedule is SCH 40. A simple way to determine the pipe size is by measuring the outside diameter. Wrap a string around the pipe. Mark the point where the string touches together. Use a tape measure to find the length between the tip of the string and the mark made. Divide the circumference by Pi (𝝅), 3.14159. Pipe Nipples come in any specified length, but the the most common range between close to 12".
